The Governance Digest Podcast is a regular update on corporate and organisation governance developments worldwide presented by John Smyth who will interview governance experts and business leaders on their views of governance practice in an ever changing environment.
John Smyth is a highly experienced chartered governance professional and chartered director with postgraduate diplomas in company direction and corporate governance. He is an experienced executive and non-executive board director, having served on boards in Ireland, the UK, the Channel Islands, and Ukraine, including First National Building Society/First Active Plc, Ukragasbank, IPB Insurance, Ostia Software Solutions, the Department of Education (Northern Ireland), and the Department of Finance (Northern Ireland). He has chaired the Audit and Risk and Investment Committees on the boards he has served on over the years.
John has also led industry and professional organisations, including the Institute of Directors in Ireland, the Chartered Governance Institute (Republic of Ireland), and the Irish Mortgage and Savings Association. He is a former vice president of the European Mortgage Federation and a council member of the International Union for Housing Finance. John was a founding council member of both the Ombudsman Council for Credit Institutions and the Centre for Corporate Governance at University College Dublin. He is a past president of both the Blackrock College Union and Blackrock College RFC. He has led director development workshops for the Institute of Directors in Ireland and on his own account in the UK, the Netherlands, and Ukraine.
John has extensive experience in advising boards on corporate governance restructuring, and although he has retired from consultancy, he will continue to contribute to corporate governance topics with this regular podcast.
